1ST DAY | La Mothe-St-Héray orangery !
We left Futuroscope at 9:00am, and 40 minutes later, we arrived at La Mothe-Saint-Héray. A charming village made even better by the Niort Sèvre, dotted with mills, bridges and washhouses, with a beautiful orangery built in the 17th century by Richelieu’s master builder. A romantic dinner at the water’s edge, in the restaurant Le Petit Courault in Pamproux was a real treat! At 2:00pm, we arrived at the Prieuré Saint- Barthélémy where we were welcomed by Caroline et Paul for a visit of the property and particularly the 12th century former Benedictine priory. The huge garden is a real floral haven of peace. We discovered the domain’s 20 beehives. Paul explains about the life of the hive and the bees, it’s fascinating. After a peaceful siesta in our enormous room, we descended the magnificent stone staircase for an aperitif and gastronomic dinner for two, cooked by the owner.
